What the game is for
Dutch learners often ask which article belongs with a noun. There are useful patterns, but also many exceptions. De or Het is designed to help make the answer feel more familiar through repetition, quick feedback, and short practice sessions.
For learners
Use De or Het when you want a quick, focused way to practice article recall. Start with A1, answer by tapping or swiping, and return regularly to build familiarity with the words you find hardest.
For teachers
De or Het can be used as a short warm-up, a homework prompt, or an optional practice activity between lessons. It is designed for individual repetition and does not replace teacher feedback, conversation, or a structured course.
How it works
Each card shows a Dutch noun and its English translation. Choose de or het by tapping a button or swiping. Your streak and level progress stay on your device, so you can pick up where you left off.
Who made it
De or Het was created by Anders Max Koetzier with input from NT2 teachers. The goal is simple: make practicing Dutch articles more approachable and more fun.
Free and optional unlock
The core game is free to play. A €1 device-level unlock gives access to all themes and the B1, B1+, B2, and B2+ levels. It is optional and is intended to support the project.
